EBT card stolen in Connecticut: what to do

Simple answer

Change the PIN now. Then tell the SNAP office.

A theft on or after December 21, 2024 is not eligible for federal replacement. We never ask for the card number or the PIN.

What to do now

  1. 1. Change the PIN with the phone number printed on the card. Do it before the next deposit if you can.
  2. 2. Check the account for charges you did not make.
  3. 3. Tell the Connecticut SNAP office. USDA says the state will not call or text to ask for your PIN or card number.
  4. 4. Ask for a new card if someone copied the old one.

How to lock the card

We did not verify an official lock-card app or website for Connecticut on 2026-10-16. Use the phone number on the card, or ask the SNAP office to stop the card. Do not type the card number, the PIN, or a login on this page.

Skimming reimbursement

Federal funds can replace SNAP stolen from October 1, 2022 through December 20, 2024. A theft on or after December 21, 2024 is not eligible for federal replacement. A state may use its own money. USDA says there is no promise that state money will be paid back with federal funds.

We did not verify whether Connecticut still replaces newer thefts with state money. The September 2025 data file we opened counts old claims. It does not say who still pays.
