SNAP work requirements in New York

In New York, the SNAP time limit can cover adults ages 18 through 64 unless another exception fits. The rule is about 80 hours a month of work or a work program. The 2025 memo removed the veteran, homeless, and foster-care exceptions. We do not guess a county waiver. This site does not approve or deny benefits.

Simple answer

The federal time limit can cover ages 18 through 64. A local waiver can change that.

We did not verify a New York county waiver on 2026-10-16. Ask the office, or open the FNS waiver files.

Are you responsible for a child under 14 in the SNAP home?
Are you pregnant?
Are you unable to work because of a physical or mental limit?
Do you already work or train about 80 hours a month?
Do you work 30 hours a week, go to school at least half time, join a treatment program, care for a child under 6, or meet another program's work rule?
Do you meet the Indian, Urban Indian, or California Indian definition in the October 2025 memo?

Simple answer

Type an age to see the rule.

The time-limit age comes from the October 3, 2025 FNS memo: 18 through 64.

How many hours?

If the time limit applies, the public USDA page says 80 hours a month.

How to report

Tell the SNAP office in New York. USDA does not publish one national form. Use the phone number on your letter, or the state directory. Do not send a card number or a PIN.

We save an age range, your state, whether a child under 14 is in the home, and whether you already work about 80 hours. We do not save pregnancy, a health limit, or tribal status. The saved result does not name which exception you picked. This is not an application and it is not a decision.

State waiver note

Some counties can pause the time limit with a USDA waiver. We did not download or check the New York map on 2026-10-16. A file on the USDA site is not the same as a yes for your county.
