Unemployment benefits in Rhode Island (2026): weekly amount and how to apply

From the July 2026 table

Minimum $82 - $132. Maximum $777 - $971.

The table lists 17 to 26 weeks. The weeks column does not include extra weeks a state pays only in limited circumstances, such as high unemployment, approved training, or a workforce dislocation.

These figures are for Rhode Island only. They come from the U.S. Department of Labor's Significant Provisions table, effective July 1, 2026. That publication says it is not an official interpretation of state law.

Weekly benefit amount

Minimum: $82 - $132. Maximum: $777 - $971.

Footnote 1 on the weekly-amount column says that when a range is shown, the higher figure for both the minimum and the maximum includes the dependents' allowance for the maximum number of dependents.

How the weekly amount is calculated

3.85% of average high 2 quarters in base period + greater of $15 or 5% of weekly benefit rate per dependent, capped at the greater of $50 or 25% of weekly benefit amount.

The table prints: 3.85% of avg high 2 qtrs in BP + greater of $15 or 5% of weekly benefit rate per dep, capped at the greater of $50 or 25% of WBA.

What you need to qualify

1 1/2 times high-quarter wages; 200 times minimum hourly wage in 1 quarter and 400 times minimum hourly wage in base period; or 1,200 times minimum hourly wage in base period.

The table prints: 1½ x HQW; 200 x minimum hourly wage in 1 qtr and 400 x minimum hourly wage in BP; or 1,200 x minimum hourly wage in BP.

Maximum weeks

The table lists 17 to 26 weeks. The weeks column does not include extra weeks a state pays only in limited circumstances, such as high unemployment, approved training, or a workforce dislocation.

The maximum benefit calculation, in plain words: Lesser of 33% base-period wages or 26 times weekly benefit amount.

The table prints: Lesser of 33% BPW or 26 x WBA.

Waiting week

Yes. Table 3-7 lists a one-week waiting period for Rhode Island. Benefits are not payable for that week. The table says this week applies to total unemployment, partial unemployment, or consecutive benefit years unless a note says otherwise. The table says the week may be waived for people unemployed because of a natural disaster or a state of emergency.

The July 2026 table does not repeat the waiting week. It tells readers to use Chapter 3 of the 2023 Comparison.

Working part time

Part-time work can still leave a payment for that week. The July 2026 table lists what this state disregards: 1/2 weekly benefit amount. Earnings above that amount can reduce the weekly benefit. The table does not print a longer partial-benefit formula, so this page does not add one.

The table prints: 1/2 WBA.

How to apply

File with the unemployment agency in the state where you worked. The July 2026 report says state filing information is at Unemployment.gov. Do not type a Social Security number, a password, or a bank account on this website.

We did not verify a separate Rhode Island claim address on October 22, 2026, so this page does not guess one. Use Unemployment.gov to reach the state.

When the benefits run out

The unemployment weeks above are the regular state maximum in the July 2026 table. When they end, these Rhode Island guides are the next places to check. Just lost your job? puts them in order.
